LITTLEFORK — Littlefork-Big Falls is ready for a break after a tough start to the 2009-10 season.
The Vikings fell to 0-6 Thursday with a 72-35 loss at home to Mountain Iron-Buhl.
Dakotah Winans led the Rangers (3-3) with 21 points, Baily Knuti added 14 points and Sarah Overbye had 11 points. MI-B made seven 3-pointers, including six in the first half. Knuti made a team-high three, also all in the first half.
For L-BF, Kari Imhof scored a team-high 15 points and Liz Bobst added five points and made the Vikings’ only 3-pointer.
The Rangers finished 15 of 31 from the free-throw line, while the Vikings went 10 of 22 from the stripe. Imhof was 5-for-12.
Just don’t think the frustrations that come with losing are breaking up the Vikings.
“They’re still keeping their heads up and going out and having fun,” Vikings head coach Lisa Lehman said.
That was the No. 1 goal coming into the season, and things should get better in 2010. L-BF’s first six opponents — Orr, Cook, Bigfork, Northland, Nashwauk-Keewatin and MI-B — are 23-8 over their first 31 games. Bigfork is ranked No. 5 in Class A.
The next six opponents, beginning with Greenway (0-4) on Jan. 5, are a combined 9-19 through 28 games. Hill City (Jan. 7) is 0-4, Cotton (Jan. 11) is 2-2, Ely (Jan. 18) is 1-4, Lake of the Woods (Jan. 19) is 3-1 and Cherry (Jan. 21) is 3-4.
“They’re having a good time,” Lehman added. “And I’m glad. They still work hard. They still try.”
