The International Falls boys golf team had the 10th-best team score at the Northern Invitational held late last week in Virginia.
After playing 36 holes — 18 on both Friday and Saturday — the Broncos ended up with a two-day total for four players of 681.
Shattuck-St. Mary’s won with the top score of 619, followed by Grand Rapids (635), Crookston (643), Virginia (654) and Hermantown and Mahtomedi rounding out the top five tied at 656.
The Falls opened the tournament near the bottom of the 20-team field with a score of 353, then rebounded on the final day with a 332, fifth-best on Saturday, which featured less-than-ideal golfing conditions amid the strong wind and cold temperature.
Shattuck-St. Mary’s, which had the top team score on both days at 301 and 318, respectively, also ended up with the top-two players for the tournament with sophomore Nathan Zhao finishing first with a 149 (71-78) for 36 holes, a stroke ahead of senior teammate Jake Curwin at 150 (72-78).
Based on the top scores, in which multiple players tied each other, the best score by a Falls golfer over two days came from freshman Eric Cann, who tied for the 13th-best score at 166 (85-81).
Broncos eighth-grader Brady Wright tied for the 18th-best score at 171 (87-84). Junior teammate Brady Walls tied for the 21st-best score at 174 (94-80). Falls eighth-grader Riley Nemec tied for the 22nd-best score at 175 (88-87) and eighth-grader Brock O’Laughlin had the 35-best score at 190 (93-97).
