International Falls’ football team needed overtime Friday to finally win a game this season.

A reception by Austin Geiselhart to score a two-point conversion in the extra session lifted the Broncos to a 24-23 victory at Hibbing.

The Falls improved its season record to 1-6 overall and 1-4 in the Sea-Range Conference.

Like the previous five games, the Broncos held the lead before the end of the fourth quarter. Friday night, however, the Falls would end up in front.

Falls head coach Jay Boyle said the Broncos “have been getting better game by game.”

The game deadlocked at 16-16 at the end of regulation. In the overtime, the Broncos went on defense first when Hibbing scored a touchdown and kicked the extra point to lead, 23-16.

The Broncos responded with a rushing touchdown by running back Nick Janttie to pull within a point. Falls then decided to go for a two-point conversion to win the game outright.

An illegal procedure penalty backed up the Broncos five yards, before quarterback Gunnar Anderson threw to Geiselhart in the end zone for the winning score.

Falls’ offense went primarily to its rushing game against the Bluejackets. Of the 295 total yards, the Broncos rushed for 229. Janttie accounted for 151 yards on the ground. Jakob Ettestad added 30 yards rushing and a touchdown, while Anderson ran for 23 more.

Anderson completed only two of five passes for 66 yards with the longest being a 39-yard scoring strike to Luke Spilde.

The Bluejackets also gained most of their yards running the football by rushing for 191 yards out of the 249 total.

On defense, the Broncos bit Hibbing with the turnover bug when Janttie and Nehemiah Olson hauled in two interceptions apiece.

The Falls closes out the regular season tonight at Sports Stadium against Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin, prior to opening the Section 7AAA playoffs next Tuesday.
