Coming off Saturday’s tournament at Virginia, International Falls’ volleyball team dropped three straight games in the Falls High School gym Monday night when the Broncos were swept by Hibbing 16-25, 18-25, 16-25.
“I’m not happy losing three straight to Hibbing at all — I’m really pretty disappointed,” said Falls head coach Erin Shikowsky. “We did some good things. ... We had some runs of errors. I know that we could have been more productive, and I know that we could have been more competitive.”
Two Hibbing hitters, Ebony Gray and Josie Greenwood, each had 11 kills for the Bluejackets. Shikowsky attributed several of Hibbing’s uncontested spikes at the net to the Broncos “overpassing” their own hitters.
“Our overpasses they slammed back in our face, but that’s to be expected,” she said.
Falls’ statistical leaders included: Shawna Misner, 11 digs, Reva Renollet, 12 set assists; Tessa Walls, eight kills; and Hailey Fentem, five kills.
Falls sixth at Virginia
The Broncos went 2-2 at Saturday’s tournament in Virginia to place sixth out of 16 teams.
Falls won the opening match against Bigfork in two straight games, 25-12, 25-10, before being swept in the second match by North Woods, 15-25, 18-25.
The Broncos won both games in the third match against Nashwauk-Keewatin, 25-23, 25-13, before losing their final match in three games to Northeast Range, 26-24, 11-25, 13-15.
Falls’ season match record now stands at 8-7.
The Broncos return to action Thursday with a match at Ely.
