Hailey Fentem and Olivia Santee

Falls’ Hailey Fentem (1) and Olivia Santee (9) block a return hit by Greenway’s Summer Mcdonald (6) in Thursday’s volleyball match in the Falls High School gym.

A close first game didn’t count as a win Thursday night for International Falls’ volleyball team when the Broncos lost at home to Greenway in three straight games, 23-25, 11-25, 16-25.

“The first game was fun,” said Falls head coach Erin Shikowsky. “We were playing some defense. One thing we did pretty well in the first game was block. We were slowing down their big hitters.”

The Broncos led 18-17 late in game one before Greenway broke a 22-22 tie and won by two points.

Greenway took an early lead in game two and held its first double-digit lead at 17-7 before winning by 14.

“I think in the second game we fell a little short,” Shikowsky said. “Our passing was not as good in the second game, so we really can’t do a lot without our passing.”

The Falls got off to a good start in game three by taking a 4-0 lead. However, Greenway was able to dominate the final game after breaking a 9-9 tie.

The Broncos’ statistical leaders included: Shawna Misner, 11 digs; Reva Renollet, 11 digs, nine set assists; Tessa Walls, seven kills; and Hailey Fentem, eight kills.

Two Greenway players recorded double-digit kills with Summer Mcdonald tallying 13 and Taylor Orhn having 12.

L-BF 3, Chisholm 0

Littlefork-Big Falls kept its perfect season record intact Thursday when the Vikings improved to 7-0 by sweeping a match at Chisholm, 25-21, 25-23, 25-19.

“I thought our team did a really good job at the net,” said L-BF head coach Sarah Bradley. “We put up a good block, and therefore, our defense was able to cover a lot of ground. We played scrappy, and that helped us win.”

The Vikings’ statistical leaders included: DyAna Imhof, eight kills, five blocks; Abby Thompson, nine kills, four blocks; Brooke Millerbernd, nine digs, two aces; Breann Larson, nine digs.
