International Falls boys hockey senior forward Lucas DeBenedet recorded an assist when he was part of the Section 7A/7AA team at last weekend’s “Ted Brill Great 8” tournament held at Wakota Arena in South St. Paul.
DeBenedet’s assist came in the first period of Sunday’s 8-7 victory over Section 8A/8AA for third place.
Section 7A/7AA opened the tournament Friday with a 5-4 victory over Section 1A/1AA and then lost in Saturday’s semifinals, 6-2, to Section 6A/6AA, which lost Sunday’s championship game by the same score to Section 4A/4AA.
The Great 8 tournament combined senior players in Class A and AA in each of the state’s eight sections as selected by the coaches. The tournament provides the players with the opportunity to play with and against the top high school players in Minnesota.
