Virginia was not at full strength Tuesday night when International Falls’ volleyball team swept the Blue Devils in the FHS gym, 25-19, 25-21, 25-14.
“I thought (Tuesday night) our passing was pretty good, and we were able to run some of the offense that we’ve been working on in practice,” said Broncos head coach Erin Shikowsky.
Though two Bronco hitters recorded double-digit kills, Shikowsky said she would expect a healthy Virginia team to play better at the net.
“I think we had a little more height than they did at the net, but I know they have some big hitters that are out right now,” she said. “I’m sure come playoff time, things will be a little different.”
Falls’ statistical leaders included: Hailey Fentem, 13 kills; Tessa Walls 11 kills, three ace blocks; Mckenna Rasmussen, eight kills, two ace blocks; Shawna Misner, 21 digs; Reva Renollet, 19 set assists, nine digs, two ace blocks; and Savanna Stratton, 12 set assists.
The Broncos return to action Thursday with a home match against Eveleth-Gilbert.
L-BF 3, Blackduck 0
Littlefork-Big Falls swept a road match Tuesday at Blackduck, 25-11, 25-6, 25-13.
“I thought our team did a really good job of continuing to play at a high level (Tuesday night),” said Vikings head coach Sarah Bradley.
L-BF’s statistical leaders included: Courtney Pfeifer, six ace serves, 13 digs; DyAna Imhof, 10 kills; and Brooke Millerbernd, nine kills.
The Vikings, who are 10-0 in best-of-five dual matches this season with their only losses coming at Saturday’s Thief River Falls Tournament, have their next match scheduled for Oct. 2 at Hill City.
