The International Falls softball team rebounded from Friday’s loss to rival Littlefork-Big Falls with a home victory Monday over Ely, 13-7.
“(Monday), I thought the difference was the kids hit the ball when we had runners on,” said Broncos head coach Kevin Gordon.
Falls’ 13 hits included two from senior Sam Hams, who smashed a three-run homer over the fence late in the game.
“It kind of took the wind out of their sails, I think, a little bit,” Gordon said. “She hit that thing pretty hard. It was a line drive, a screamer.”
The Broncos’ Cassie Tomczak went 3-4 with a triple, while Olivia Santee added 3 hits with a double and Morgan Bruess had a pair a singles.
Falls freshman Teagan Anderson picked up her sixth pitching victory of the season in as many starts. She also recorded a season-high 11 strikeouts.
Eveleth-Gilbert 13, I. Falls 3
Anderson recorded her first varsity pitching loss as the starter when the Broncos lost Tuesday’s road game against Eveleth-Gilbert, 13-3, in six innings.
The Falls is now 8-6 for the season and hosts Warroad on Thursday.
