After three rain delays, day one of the Section 7AA girls golf tournament concluded Tuesday evening at Giants Ridge with International Falls placing fourth in the team standings and advancing to day two action May 30.
Hermantown holds a 34-stroke advantage over the closest of the other three remaining schools with the low team score of 368, followed by Eveleth-Gilbert (402), Hibbing (403) and the Falls (412) as the four teams still in the running for a state tournament bid.
Only eight golfers concluded the first 18 holes with a score below 100.
Hermantown senior Olivia Tusa holds the individual lead after carding a 78, 4 strokes ahead of senior teammate Callie Wilson. Falls senior Kelly Blair is in eighth place after day one with a score of 97.
Bronco seniors Malinda Porter and Alyssa Bergstrom both ended up with 104, while sophomore Katie West had a 107 for the final score to count toward the team total.
The team with the overall low score after day two next week will advance to the Class AA State Tournament. The top-five golfers not on the qualifying team will also advance to state.
