International Falls has duked it out with Hermantown all season, and now the two teams will be at it again Tuesday in a winner-advances-to-state duel at The Quarry at Giants Ridge.
The Hawks and Broncos tied at 316 strokes Thursday in the first round of the Section 7AA tournament at The Quarry, with Virginia finishing third at 323. Eveleth-Gilbert finished a distant fourth at 350 to also advance to Tuesday’s final round, which begins at 9 a.m. and will feature over 150 golfers, according to Broncos head coach Bill Mason.
“The wind was up, so that made it a little tougher,” Mason said.
The Broncos’ average score this year is just over 306.
Glenn Walls carded the low scored Thursday for the Falls with a 75, while Derek Riley also stayed in the 70s with a 77. Brett Musich and Justin Mayer shot 82s to account for the 316. Travis Blais (85) and Jeff Shermoen (88) also participated for the Broncos, who will be looking to advance to state for the first time in Mason’s 14 years as head coach.
