A season after defeating Hibbing-Chisholm for the first time in school history, International Falls skated to a 1-1 tie Tuesday against the Bluejackets at Bronco Arena.

The last three matchups between the Section 7A schools have all been close, helping to forget about the Broncos’ 0-14 all-time start against the Bluejackets.

“Feels good after all the seasons we’ve lost to them,” said Broncos senior Ashley Bahr, who scored with 40 seconds to play to send the game into overtime.

When Broncos head coach Gerald Bolstad pulled goalie Taylar Nelson, Bahr skated on as the extra attacker and pounded home a rebound to tie the game. It was a power-play goal, assisted by Mackenzie Raboin and Sydney Gordon.

Hibbing-Chisholm’s goal came at the 14:30 mark of the second period when Lexi Sanders slipped a shot past Nelson, who finished with 25 saves. Dory Johnson had 31 saves for the Bluejackets (1-6-1).

The Broncos (5-2-3) were coming off a 4-2 loss Saturday at Proctor-Hermantown-Marshall.

Nichole Mathews had two goals and an assist for the Mirage, Reilly Fawcett added a goal and an assist and Jenna Wassenaar had one goal.

Rebekah Ford and Abbey Fox scored for the Broncos.

Nelson made 25 saves, while Courtney Simmons stopped 22 shots.

Game note

• Broncos defenseman Alyssa Bergstrom missed her second straight game with a knee injury. However, she’s hoping to play Friday at Thief River Falls after suffering the injury Dec. 9 against Lake of the Woods.
