It took 30 shots, but International Falls finally solved East Range goalie Mikki Hartman-Mattson in overtime Tuesday in a 1-0 victory at Bronco Arena.
Mackenzie Raboin was the hero again, tallying the game-winner on the power play just 42 seconds into the extra session. Michele McDonald and Sydney Gordon assisted on the goal, which was tipped in my Raboin. Raboin also tallied the game-winner in overtime against Hibbing/Chisholm earlier this season in the Broncos’ first ever victory against the Bluejackets.
“It was a great tip. A goal-scorers goal,” Broncos head coach Gerald Bolstad said.
The Broncos outshot the Knights (5-10) 11-4 in the first period, 9-2 in the second and 8-6 in the third before scoring on their first shot in overtime.
Most of the game was spent in the Knights’ zone, but the Broncos couldn’t muster up many quality chances.
“I think the kids played hard,” Bolstad said. “They just didn’t have any getup and go.”
Taylar Nelson returned from missing last game with an illness and recorded 12 saves for the shutout. Nelson also shutout the Knights in a 3-0 victory on Dec. 21.
The Broncos (11-8-3) return to action Thursday at home against Hibbing/Chisholm (3-18-1), which snapped a 14-game losing streak Tuesday with a 4-2 win against Silver Bay/Two Harbors/Cook County.
The Broncos have never beat the Bluejackets at Bronco Arena.
