The International Falls girls swimming and diving team picked up seven first-place finishes out of the nine individual events on the way to winning Thursday’s dual meet at Mesabi East, 111-74.
“We swam very, very well,” said Broncos head coach Jill Herzig, who noted that she expected the meet to be closer than the score turned out.
Three Falls swimmers had two individual victories apiece.
Junior Breanna Shofner won both the 50-yard freestyle (27.55 seconds) and 100 freestyle (1:02).
Senior Sarah Todd placed first in both the 200 individual medley (2:38.2) and 100 butterfly (1:13.34).
Junior Kari Arnold won both the 200 freestyle (2:26.49) and the 500 freestyle (6:42.73).
The Broncos’ other individual first-place finish came from freshman Abby Kostiuk in the 100 backstroke (1:12.32).
Falls also won one of the three relay events. Shofner, Todd and juniors Blair Johnson and Courtney Klow placed first in the 200 freestyle relay (1:54.94).
Three individuals and two relay teams placed second for the Broncos.
Falls’ individual runner-up finishers, by name and event, included:
• Carolann Stone, 200 freestyle (2:26.68).
• Kylie Skallman, diving (133.1 points).
• Klow, 500 freestyle (6:49.47).
The Broncos’ 200 medley relay team of Klow, Todd, Shofner, and Emily Saari placed second in 2:08.87, 52-hundredths of a second behind Mesabi East’s winning time.
Falls’ 400 freestyle relay team of Johnson, Kostiuk, Emma Misner and Jayde Hall finished runner-up in 4:31.57.
The Broncos junior varsity team lost its dual meet against the Giants, 96-76.
