The Littlefork-Big Falls baseball team stayed close for four innings with Deer River before losing Tuesday’s road game, 14-6.

“We played really well up until the fifth and sixth innings,” said Vikings head coach John Larson.

L-BF trailed, 6-4, before entering the fifth inning. Starting pitcher Mitch Nelson went 4 2/3 innings before giving up 9 runs and 7 hits in a losing effort. Garrett Larson pitched the final 1 1/3 innings, allowing 5 runs on 4 hits.

Of the Vikings’ 8 hits, Garrett Larson had three, including a double, while Darian Erickson added 2 hits.

L-BF 7, Northland 5

On Monday, the Vikings won their first game of the season by defeating Northland, 7-5, in the second game of a doubleheader.

Evan Wimmer was the winning pitcher, allowing 5 earned runs on 9 hits with 3 strikeouts.

“Our defense came through in the second game,” said L-BF head coach John Larson.

Of the Vikings’ 7 hits, Jeff Fry had two of them.

Northland 5, L-BF 4

In the first game of Monday’s doubleheader, L-BF lost to Northland, 5-4.

The Vikings led by a run before giving up 4 runs in a single inning.

Fry recorded the pitching loss. He allowed 4 hits.

L-BF only registered 3 hits in the five-inning game, which John Larson said was shortened to be able get in both games with the second game being able to go seven innings before darkness.

Mesabi East 10, L-BF 6

The Vikings led by 3 runs going into the final two innings Friday before losing at home to Mesabi East, 10-6.

Taylor DeLack recorded the pitching loss after working 6 1/3 innings.

“Taylor just kind of ran out of gas at the end,” John Larson said.

L-BF led 6-3 before giving up 4 runs in the sixth.

The Vikings are now 1-7.
