The Littlefork-Big Falls school district is presently taking applications for the position of head football coach after Derek Bilben stepped down from the position, said L-BF Athletic Director Christopher Bachmeier.

Bilben had been the Vikings’ head football coach for seven seasons. L-BF’s nine-man football team ended up with a 2-7 record in 2011.

Bachmeier said Bilben remains with the district as a science teacher, while applications will continue to be accepted for the head football coach until the position is filled.

“We (already) have some applications that we are comfortable with,” he said.

Bachmeier said he hopes a new head football coach will be named by the end of July with the L-BF School Board meeting later this month.

Football practice for the 2012 season is scheduled to start Aug. 13.
