The Littlefork-Big Falls softball team remains undefeated at 3-0 in the Section 7A Tournament after winning a pair of games Thursday afternoon in Cloquet.

The top-seeded Vikings won their first game over No. 4-seeded South Ridge, 10-4.

“We played excellent,” said L-BF head coach Mike Imhof. “Brooke (Millerbernd) pitched a whale of a game. We played great defense and we really hit the ball well.”

Millerbernd threw three strikeouts over seven innings in recording the victory. The Vikings tallied four triples, including two from DyAna Imhof with Amanda Nelson and Breann Larson each hitting a triple.

L-BF scored its first two runs in the bottom of the first by taking advantage of the first two batters being walked by Panthers pitcher Mallory Thibault when Millerbernd singled and DyAna Imhof tripled to each drive in a run.

The Vikings had a 4-1 lead going into the bottom of the fifth when they added three insurance runs. After South Ridge responded with three runs of its own in the top of the sixth, L-BF added three more runs in the bottom of the frame to close out the scoring.

L-BF 13, CARLTON 8

In game two, the Vikings trailed No. 2-seeded Carlton, 7-2, going into the bottom of the fifth when they erupted for 11 runs and ended up defeating the Bulldogs, 13-8.

“We didn't give up,” Mike Imhof said. “This team's got a lot of character and it kind of showed.”

L-BF sent 15 batters to the plate in the bottom of the fifth when Carlton's fielding miscues mushroomed into multiple runs for the Vikings.

“We got some runners on base and they couldn't field our bunts,” Mike Imhof said. “They lost their line of thought and they started making some pretty bad mistakes.”

Millerbernd, who recorded another complete-game pitching victory, also had three hits. Larson added three hits with Katie Fort and Karli Little having two hits apiece.

With the win, the Vikings advance to the winners' bracket game against top-seeded Cherry at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Cohasset.
