Littlefork-Big Falls’ volleyball team battled with North Woods in the title match that went the full three games in Saturday’s “On the Edge” tournament at Bigfork before falling to the Grizzlies, 28-30, 26-24, 6-15.
It was the second time the two teams faced each other this season. The Vikings won the best-of-five match in four games Sept. 20 when they hosted North Woods.
L-BF head coach Sarah Bradley said the Grizzlies are presently ranked higher than the Vikings in Section 7A based on the strength of schedule placing North Woods at No. 1 and L-BF at No. 2.
The Vikings were able to advance to the title game of the Bigfork tournament after having won two straight games against both Northeast Range, 25-14, 25-19, and South Ridge, 25-21, 25-22.
L-BF’s statistical leaders for the tournament included: Courtney Pfeifer, 11 kills, 25 digs; Brooke Millerbernd, 16 kills, 43 digs; DyAna Imhof, 15 kills, seven blocks; Breann Larson, 43 digs; and Abby Thompson, 15 kills, two blocks.
L-BF 3, Deer River 1
The Vikings returned to action Tuesday for a home dual match and defeated Deer River in four games, 25-16, 21-25, 25-12, 25-17.
Bradley said L-BF played “pretty good” overall.
“We had a few communication errors in game two, but other than that I think that they did really well and they continued to attack the ball, so that was a big part of our victory (Tuesday night),” she said.
Those leading L-BF statistically for the match included: Chelsey Ziemba, two ace serves, six kills, 10 digs; Thompson, 12 kills, two blocks; Imhof, 13 kills; and Millerbernd, nine kills, 24 digs.
The Vikings next host Mountain Iron-Buhl on Thursday. The home match against Nashwauk-Keewatin that was called off last week because of the wintry weather has been rescheduled for Oct. 17 at 4 p.m.
