Vikings softball team clinches No. 1 seed

The Littlefork-Big Falls softball team won its 13th consecutive game and improved to 14-1 following Thursday’s 10-2 home victory over Lake of the Woods.

Kristy Horne Dunn pitched all seven innings for the Vikings, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits while striking out four.

Of L-BF’s 11 hits, four players — DyAna Imhof, Courtney Pfeifer, Brooke Millerbernd and Karli Little — each had two.

Imhof smashed a home run over the fence, Pfeifer hit a triple and Millerbernd added a double.

“We’re still hitting the ball really hard,” said Vikings head coach Mike Imhof. “We played really good defense.”

With Thursday’s win, Imhof said L-BF has clinched the No. 1 seed for its Sub-Section in Section 7A and will host the team’s opening playoff game May 22.

The Vikings have three regular season games left on their schedule for next week.

L-BF baseball team drops two games

Losses continued to add up for the Littlefork-Big Falls baseball team this week after dropping two games in as many days.

On Thursday, L-BF lost at home to Mountain Iron-Buhl, 12-4.

“We did not play very well,” said Vikings head coach John Larson.

Taylor DeLack led L-BF at the plate with 2 singles.

Jeff Fry recorded the pitching loss.

N-K 11, L-BF 5

DeLack and Tommy Manninen each had 3 hits, but it wasn’t enough when the Vikings had a pair of bad innings and lost a road game Wednesday against Nashwauk-Keewatin, 11-5.

Evan Wimmer pitched all seven innings in recording the loss.

“We just couldn’t back (Wimmer) up in the field,” Larson said.

With about two weeks left before the Section 7A Tournament begins, L-BF has just one win for the season.
