Falls softball team enters playoffs 9-9

International Falls will be entering the Section 7AA softball tournament that begins next Tuesday with a 9-9 record.

The Broncos lost their regular season finale this week at Virginia, 18-4.

Teagan Anderson took the pitching loss, giving up 11 of  the 16 Virginia hits.

Of Falls’ 7 hits, Olivia Santee had a solo home run and also doubled. Anna Ringhofer added a double.

Broncos head coach Kevin Gordon said the team’s tournament opponent will be determined after all the regular season games are completed today.

He said he expects the Falls will open the tournament Tuesday with a road game, while computer rankings will be used to determine the seeding for the respective teams.

The seven teams in the Broncos’ Sub-Section include the Falls, Eveleth-Gilbert, Virginia, Greenway, Hermantown, Hibbing and Proctor.

The Sub-Section’s top-seeded team will automatically advance to next Thursday’s Section 7AA second round in Cohasset, where Tuesday’s winners will also play.

The Journal will post the Section 7AA tournament pairings on its website after they are announced.

L-BF baseball team loses at home to N/K

The Littlefork-Big Falls baseball team has two regular season games left on its schedule for next week and just one win so far in 2012 after dropping a 10-0 decision at home Wednesday to Northome/Kelliher.

Tommy Manninen pitched into the fourth inning and recorded the loss.

The Vikings played without sophomore shortstop Taylor DeLack, who had sustained a head injury in Monday’s home loss to Cherry and sat out Wednesday’s game.

L-BF hosts Lake of the Woods on Monday and plays its regular season finale Tuesday at rival International Falls before beginning the Section 7A tournament next Saturday.
