Two girls swimmers from International Falls have been named to this year’s All-Iron Range Conference Team.
All team members have been chosen based on their performance at the 2012 IRC meet, in which the top-two places in each individual event and the best four relay splits of those not already on the team qualified.
Broncos eighth-grader Emily Saari received All-Conference recognition for her split time in the 200-yard medley relay swimming the breaststroke, while junior Breanna Shofner was recognized for her split time swimming the freestyle in that event.
Saari had a 50-yard split in the breaststroke of 34.95 seconds. Shofner’s split time for the freestyle was 26.59.
Falls’ 200 medley relay team of Saari, Shofner, Sarah Todd and Courtney Klow placed third at the IRC meet in 2:05.94.
The Broncos compete next in the Section 7A preliminaries Thursday at Hibbing. The top eight in each swimming event will advance to Saturday’s championship heat, while the top 9-16 advance to the consolation heat.
Falls’ 200 medley relay is seeded No. 4 in the Section meet, while Shofner has received the No. 4 seed in the 50 freestyle.
The Broncos’ top seed is freshman Abby Kostiuk, who is seeded No. 3 in the 100 backstroke.
Following Saturday’s finals, the Section’s top two in each individual swimming and relay event and the top four in the diving competition all advance to the Class A State Girls Swimming and Diving Meet being held Nov. 15-17 at the U of M Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.
