After trailing Thursday by 4 runs going into the bottom of the fourth inning, International Falls’ softball team erupted for 14 runs over three frames to win at home over Warroad, 15-5, in six innings.
“The kids were patient (Thursday) — they were patient with the hitting, I thought,” said Broncos head coach Kevin Gordon. “We hit the ball when we had runners on.”
Morgan Bruess and Olivia Santee each had 3 hits for the Falls.
The Warriors scored all their runs in the top of the fourth to take a 5-1 lead, but then the Broncos rallied for 8 runs in the bottom of the inning.
The Broncos’ Meghan Tomczak, who ended up with 2 hits, drove in a pair of runs in the fourth, while Ashley Jonson doubled in the inning for 3 RBI.
The Falls added 3 runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth when a single by Sam Hams drove in Bruess to end the game via the 10-run rule.
Bruess was also the winning pitcher as she worked all six innings, allowing 3 hits and striking out five.
“Morgan had a strong presence on the mound,” Gordon said. “I thought she was in command of what she was doing, and I thought that had an added effect on the whole team.”
