The Littlefork-Big Falls softball team batted around the order two different times Thursday when the Vikings won big at home over Blackduck, 23-2, in five innings.
“We hit the ball well and played good defense,” said L-BF head coach Mike Imhof. “Courtney (Pfeifer) and Kristy (Horne Dunn) did a great job pitching.”
Pfeifer pitched the first three innings and allowed both runs. Horne Dunn pitched two shutout innings in relief.
Blackduck tallied a run in the top of the first when Taylor Levy hit a ground-rule double that bounced over the fence in center field. The Vikings responded with seven runs in the bottom of the inning.
Paige DeLack was the first of 12 L-BF batters in the opening inning when she led off with a triple.
Seven batters later, Serie Little singled with a line drive that bounced off the right leg of Levy, who was Blackduck’s starting pitcher and left the game after that play.
Brooke Mistic came in to relieve the injured Levy and pitched the rest of the game.
“I think it was a big factor (when Levy left the game),” Imhof said. “She was throwing a little harder than (Mistic) and little more accurate, but we were hitting the ball well then, too.”
When DeLack came to the plate for the second time in the first inning, she singled with Mistic pitching to drive in two runs.
L-BF drove in two more runs with a pair of hits in the second inning. The Vikings then grabbed a double-digit lead in the bottom of the third when 16 batters went to the plate as part of 10-run inning.
After Pfeifer walked to start the third, Brooke Millerbernd belted a two-run homer over the fence in center field to give L-BF its first round-tripper of the season.
Horne Dunn batted twice in the third and had 2 hits, including a bases-loaded double that drove in 3 runs.
The Vikings added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth as they closed out their third victory of the season.
