Starters all back for 2012 season
After having several underclassmen last year, the Littlefork-Big Falls softball team returns all of its starters in 2012.
Mike Imhof enters his 10th season as head coach following an 11-8 record and opening-round playoff victory in 2011 with what he described as a “very inexperienced team that made a lot of improvement throughout the year.”
His list of top returning players includes both pitchers who saw a lot of action in 2011 — juniors Courtney Pfeifer, who had an 18-strikeout game last season, and Kristi Horne Dunn. Both will be starting their third season on the varsity.
Imhof also noted he returns two “strong infield players and very good hitters,” senior Paige DeLack and sophomore Brooke Millerbernd, as well as senior catcher Cassy Hawkinson.
He said he is concerned the most this season about “trying to find a solid infield, also a center fielder” with inexperience in those key spots.
Imhof said the team goals this season include being the No. 1 seed in the north of Section 7A and making it to the Final Four round in the playoffs.
He said he is looking forward this season to “working with the girls to see how they progress forward through the season and make a strong push toward (a) playoff championship.”
Imhof said the teams to watch out for this season include Cherry, Silver Bay, Mesabi East and Carlton.
L-BF has its first game scheduled for April 10 at home against Deer River.
