News and Notes:

• The season-opener is Monday at Chisholm, while the home opener is Dec. 29 in the Bronco Invitational.

• Johnson is back on the team this year after missing all of last season with injuries and a severe ear infection.

More News and Notes:

• Scott Ducharme is also back this season, providing the Broncos with an asset who can swim almost any event.

• One of the team’s biggest strengths will be diving, where Henningsen, Kirdan Wenger, Toninato, Carrigan and Tatsak will account for big points in each meet.

• Biggest weakness? Numbers.

“I’m not sure we’ll be able to fill all of our events,” Reed said, noting one of the biggest losses was Nick Riley. He’s still on the roster, but he’s not expected to contribute after having back surgery following a four-wheeler accident last fall.

“He would have been our strongest distance swimmer, plus would have filled at least one of the relay spots. His absence will be a big blow to the team. But he’ll be back next year.”

• “During the season we’re a family and everyone takes care of each other,” Reed said. “The older guys help the younger guys and that makes us gel as a team.”

• The toughest competition this season will be Grand Rapids, Hibbing, Virginia and Sartell, according to Reed.
