International Falls records eight top finishes
International Falls trumped Chisholm 60-41 Tuesday on Parent’s Night in the last home swim meet for six Broncos.
Joe Baron, the fastest freestyle swimmer in school history, fittingly erased a huge deficit in the final event of the meet to give the Broncos a top finish. Baron and the Broncos’ 400-yard freestyle relay team trailed Chisholm’s 400 relay foursome by half the pool when Baron jumped in the water. Baron flew by Chisholm’s Dylan Anderson about 150 yards into the anchor leg and the Broncos won by more than six seconds.
It was one of eight top finishes for International Falls.
Baron and fellow seniors Ames Bryant, Scott Ducharme, Joe Toninato, Kirdan Wenger and Myles Wolden competed in the Falls Natatorium for the last time.
Baron wanted the pool record in the 50 and 100 freestyle, but he’ll have to settle for the school records.
“No doubt he’s going to get faster as the year goes on,” Bryant said. “No reason to get frustrated.”
Baron was frustrated to miss out on the pool records, but it’s this time of the season the last couple years when times get faster and hopes arise.
“It would be really nice to see us drop a lot of times this weekend,” Bryant said.
