Rachel Adams, Breanna Shofner, Paige Herzig and Maggie West went after the school record Thursday in the 200-yard freestyle relay but came up just short on Parent’s Night at the Falls Natatorium.
The foursome tallied a season-best time of 1 minute, 49.94 seconds (their first time under 1:50 this season), but still trail the record mark of 1:47.76, set in 1999 by Brittany Spotts, Stephanie Johnson, Laurie Lucachick and Sara Sandbeck. Grace Thorstad, Adams, Herzig and West had a season-best time of 1:48.21 last year, which is third alltime in school history.
The 200 freestyle relay eclipsing the 1:50 mark was one of many highlights in an easy 104-78 victory over Mesabi East. The Broncos tallied seven top finishes and seven runner-up finishes. Mesabi East led 15-14 after two events, but the Broncos outscored the Giants 80-63 over the final 10 events.
International Falls has one more meet before preparing for the Section 7A Championships Nov. 11 and 13 in Hibbing.
