International Falls’ 5-meet win streak came to a close Tuesday with a narrow 94-91 loss to Warroad/Roseau/Greenbush-Middle River at the Falls Natatorium.
Dubbed “The North,” at the Falls Natatorium, Roseau combined with Warroad this season to create a formidable squad. The Broncos held leads of 37-25 and 57-52, but couldn’t hold the lead with the Warriors dominating the Broncos in diving and the 500-yard freestyle.
With the 400 freestyle relay to go and the Broncos clinging to an 87-84 lead, The North won the final event to take the meet. It’s the first close dual meet the Broncos have lost this season.
“It was fun,” said Broncos senior Maggie West, who won the 100 freestyle in 1 minute, 1.97 seconds.
West was also in the foursome that won the 200 freestyle relay. West, Paige Herzig, Therese Youso and Breanna Shofner finished in 1:53.41. Herzig added a first in the 100 individual medley (2:38.43), Shofner finished first in the 50 freestyle (28.26) and Morgan Bruess was first in the 100 backstroke (1:11.62). Bruess, Herzig, Shofner and Adams also combined to win the 200 medley relay in 2:09.57.
International Falls also had two injury notes. Abby Oveson missed the meet with an illness and Ashley Hasbargen continues to miss time with an injury and hasn’t participated in a meet since mid-September.
