International Falls hosted a blustery track and field meet Thursday at Falls High School. Hibbing won the Bronco Booster Invitational on the boys side and Warroad won the girls meet.

International Falls finished runner-up in both meets.

In the boys meet, following up Hibbing’s 156 points were the Broncos (145), Warroad (70), Lake of the Woods (56), Chisholm (49) and Bigfork (45).

In the girls meet, following up Warroad’s 159 points were the Broncos (123), Hibbing (121), Chisholm (66), Lake of the Woods (47) and Bigfork (36).

Jake Jensen had another strong showing with three top finishes for International Falls. The junior finished first in a large 100-meter dash field with a wind-aided time of 11.75 seconds. He added first-place finishes in the 200 (23.95) and pole vault (12 feet).

Reggie Gorden, Myles Wolden, Marco Griffith and Aaron Marx joined forces to win the 4x800 in 9:48.41, while Shawn Filipiak and Tim Myles finished 1-2 in the high jump. Filipiak finished at 5-10 and Myles at 5-6.

Filipiak also tallied an easy first-place finish in the 110 hurdles — he was the only participant — with a time of 17.66.

Adding top five performances for the Broncos were Marx in the 400 (2nd, 57.26), Wolden in the 300 hurdles (2nd, 52.0), Logan Veillieux in the 3,200 (2nd, 12:46.67), Ryan Tomevi in the long jump (18-2.5), Filipiak in the triple jump (2nd, 37-2), Tyler House in the 100 (3rd, 11.96) and Ben King in the pole vault (T4th, 8-0) and triple jump (5th, 32-4.75). Myles, House, Gorden and Brandon Richards added a runner-up finish in the 4x200 with a time of 1:40.64.

Alicia Hendrickson led the Bronco girls with three top finishes, all in field events. She was first in the pole vault (8-9), long jump (14-9.75) and triple jump (30-08) and fifth in the 100 with a Bronco-low time of 13.83.

Britni Hendrickson had the other top finish for the Broncos with a discus throw of 97-04.

The 4x800 relay opened the meet with a runner-up finish. The 4x200 also finished second, while the 4x100 third and 4x400 fourth

Adding top five performances for the Broncos were Amber Harms in the 3,200 (2nd, 13:14.64), Sara Christianson in the shot put (3rd, 26-2.5), Lexi Owen in the 300 hurdles (3rd, 56.35), Bailey Bernard in the 400 (3rd, 1:13.0), Steph Christianson (4th, 6:20.84) and Rachel Foss (5th, 6:26.01) in the 1,600, Kelsey Eibler in the triple jump (4th, 28-11), Amy Auran in the 800 (4th, 2:57.79), Savannah Olson in the discus (68-07) and Grace Thorstad in the 200 (5th, 30.01).

Meet notes

• Rick McBride, a Falls High grad and long-time coach at Warroad (25 years), plans to retire after next year.

• Broncos senior captain John Sobczynski couldn’t participate in the meet because he was academically ineligible.
