The Vikings’ DyAna Imhof (5) tips the volleyball over North Woods’ Rachel Harmston in Thursday’s match in the Littlefork-Big Falls High School gym. Imhof recorded 12 kills and two blocks.

Two undefeated girls volleyball teams battled Thursday night in the Littlefork-Big Falls High School gym with the Vikings improving their season record to 9-0 and handing North Woods its first loss of the season.

L-BF won the match in four games, 25-20, 22-25, 25-15, 25-21.

“I thought we came out strong and we played strong for pretty much the whole game,” said Vikings head coach Sarah Bradley.

In the second game, Bradley said the Grizzlies were able to go on scoring runs when they beat the Vikings.

“Our goal always is to stop their runs, and I think they had the opportunity where we had a few errors back to back that helped them out in game two,” she said.

Bradley said making the serves was key to L-BF’s match victory.

“I told the girls coming in to (Thursday night) that if we served well, we would win, so I was proud of them for coming out and being able to do that,” she said.

The Vikings’ statistical leaders included: DyAna Imhof, two aces, 12 kills, two blocks; Brooke Millerbernd, 13 kills, 33 digs; Abby Thompson, 10 kills, two blocks; and Courtney Pfeifer, 30 digs.

The Grizzlies were led by Darby Youngstrom with 13 kills and four blocks, while Rachel Harmston added nine kills.

Pfeifer said she thought L-BF played really well Thursday night against North Woods.

“I thought we played at a really high level,” she said. “We came out strong, but I think there’s even more room for improvement if we just keep working at it.”

The Vikings are back in action today at the Thief River Falls Tournament.
