Abby Thompson and Brooke Millerbernd

The Vikings’ Abby Thompson (7) and Brooke Millerbernd (13) reach over the net to block a return hit by Mountain Iron-Buhl’s Allie Knuti (9) in Thursday’s match in the Littlefork-Big Falls gym.

Littlefork-Big Falls’ volleyball team controlled the net overall Thursday night when the Vikings won at home in three straight games against Mountain Iron-Buhl, 25-18, 25-23, 25-16.

“We hit the ball well,” said L-BF head coach Sarah Bradley. “They had a couple of big hitters, but I think we were able to keep hitting and get around their block.”

Rangers junior middle hitter Allie Knuti led MI-B with 14 kills and 10 blocks.

The Vikings’ statistical leaders included: Brooke Millerbernd, 10 kills, 11 digs; DyAna Imhof, nine kills; Courtney Pfeifer, 18 digs; Abby Thompson, three blocks; and Emily Knaeble, three aces.

L-BF held significant leads in all three games, but let a double-digit advantage slip away in game two before winning by only two.

“Giving up the runs is always what you want to stay away from in volleyball,” Bradley said. “If we can get to that stage mentally where we know how to stop the run, I think then that’s our main concern.”

The Vikings have two matches left before the playoffs when they play away Monday night against Kelliher/Northome and home Wednesday afternoon against Nashwauk-Keewatin, a make-up match from Oct. 4.
