The Fort Frances Lakers wrapped the Superior International Junior Hockey League’s regular season last Wednesday with a 3-2 loss at Thunder Bay and will open the league playoffs as the No. 2 seed at 8 p.m. Thursday when they host the No. 3-seeded Dryden Ice Dogs in the first game of a best-of-seven series.
Game two is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday at Ice for Kids Arena in Fort Frances.
Games three and four of the series are set for 7:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Dryden Memorial Arena.
If necessary, game five would take place at 7:30 p.m. March 28 at Ice for Kids Arena, while a game six would be held at 7:30 p.m. April 1 at Dryden Memorial Arena and a seventh and deciding game would take place at 7:30 p.m. April 2 at Ice for Kids Arena.
The winner of that semifinal series will face the semifinal series winner between the top-seeded Minnesota Wilderness and the winner of a best-of-three series between the No. 4 and 5 seeds, the Minnesota Iron Rangers and Thunder Bay North Stars.
The semifinal series winners will face each other in the SIJHL Bill Salonen Cup final April 4-20.
