The local Mighty Mustangs youth wrestling team competed last weekend at tournaments in Hibbing and Cloquet, taking home some team hardware at the latter meet.

At Friday’s Hibbing Open, nine Mighty Mustang wrestlers took first place, one came in second and two came in fourth.

On Saturday, the team was represented by 18 wrestlers in Cloquet and, for the second time this season, took home a third-place trophy in the “Pick 10” Team Tournament.

The Mighty Mustangs added North Woods wrestler Tristen Killoran to the team and scored 35 points to finish behind Aitkin (38 points) and Cloquet (36). The other teams taking places in the “Pick 10” were North Shore (30), Braham (29) and Nashwauk (21).

The Mighty Mustangs’ individual finishers at the Cloquet tournament are as follows:

  • First place, Hudson Mann, Caydon Lehman, Nick Bernath, Ashden Lennox, Kyan Swanson, Nathan Anderson and London Rasmussen.
  • Second place, Kalvan Silvers, Anthony Bechik, Charlie Bannert, Diego Christianson and Parker Wiersema.
  • Third place, Kalan Kittleson, Cody Jantzen, Wyatt Jantzen, and Pablo Christianson.
  • Fourth place, Dawsyn Silvers and Carter Ellison.

The Mighty Mustangs’ next tournament will be this Saturday in Virginia, which is a qualifying meet for the Jaycee State Tournament.
