The first Backus Triathlon will be held Aug. 18 starting at 10 a.m. at City Beach.
The triathlon, which is being promoted by the Backus Community Center, will have each of the three legs start and finish at City Beach with a quarter-mile swim at the beach, then biking 11 miles between City Beach and Tilson Creek and concluding with a 5-kilometer run.
The entrants may be either individuals who will compete in all three legs or teams of two or three people participating in different legs.
The registration fee by Aug. 10 is $40 per person, $75 per two-person team and $100 per three-person team.
After August 10, the registration fee increases to $50 per person, $90 per two-person team and $120 per three-person team. Race-day registration begins at the beach at 8 a.m.
