Falls’ Junior League baseball team split a road doubleheader Thursday against Grand Rapids.
In game one, the Falls defeated Grand Rapids, 8-6.
Walker Ulrich pitched a complete game to record the victory as he allowed the 6 runs on 5 hits with 4 walks.
“Walker Ulrich pitched an outstanding game and the defense played really well making only 2 errors,” said Falls Junior League head coach Mike Coffield.
Of Falls 10 hits, Chase Bernard, Tyler Coffield, Brenden Williams and Darian Erickson had two each. No one from the Falls struck out at the plate.
Grand Rapids 18, I. Falls 8
Grand Rapids put the bat on the ball in game two and defeated the Falls, 18-8, in five innings.
“(We) didn’t play as well in the second game, but Rapids hit the ball well and found the holes,” said Mike Coffield.
Riley Nemec recorded the pitching loss working the first 2 1/3 innings, allowing 9 runs on 9 hits with 2 walks. Erickson pitched the final 2 2/3 innings in relief, giving up 9 runs on 8 hits with 3 walks.
At the plate, Falls recorded 10 hits with Lane Skallman, Walker Wegner and Erickson having two apiece.
Falls has its first home games of the summer scheduled for today with a doubleheader against Hibbing set to begin at 4 p.m.
