Sylvia Cochrane edged her friend and 12-time club champion Punky Stadum on Wednesday in the 2010 Women’s Club Championship at the Falls Country Club.
Cochrane gave all the credit to her new Orlimar putter, which she purchased roughly two weeks ago. It definitely helped her edge Stadum, the 2-time defending champ, by three strokes — 83 to 86. Tammy Nass finished third with a 95.
“It’s so much easier to line up,” Cochrane said. “It’s been working really well.”
Stadum, a regular at the course with Cochrane, agreed.
The duo played together for the first in the late 1990s in a tournament at the Falls CC. When Cochrane moved to Fort Frances in 2005, she returned to play at the course and asked around for this “Punky.” Stadum was standing right next to her at the time and they’ve been golfing together ever since.
“We pretty much have a standing tee time. Eight o’clock and we’re here,” said Cochrane, a 3-time club champion. She also won in 2006 and ’07.
Rounding out the top six were Martha Karsnia (97), Diane Wright (97) and Becky Olson (99).
