The 2010 Kerry Park Charity Coed Softball Tournament last weekend turned out to be a blast.
Just ask around.
“It was pretty cool,” said Cyndi Heibel, one of three main tournament coordinators. Bob and Mel Walls also helped coordinate the festivities at Kerry Park, which included live entertainment from John Streiff, beer gardens and two food venders — Domino’s Pizza and Fairchild’s. Twenty-two door prizes were handed out and play-by-play announcing was handled by Falls High School graduate Bjorn Johnson.
Heibel was also one of the six women the tournament raised money for. Cyndi Heibel, Christa Heibel, J.J. Hasbargen, Dianna Weum, Chrissy Draper and Heather McBride all plan to walk in this weekend’s Susan G. Koman 3-day Breast Cancer Walk. The tournament — the second annual — raised $3,100 for the group.
Ten teams participated, including one team from Fort Frances and another from Hibbing. The Spot on 53 defeated Mean Green to win the championship. The Rusty Nailers finished third.
Bob Walls has aspirations to bring in more teams and continue to help out local charities.
“We could grow it as big as we could,” he said. “To have 10 teams and raise that kind of money, that’s pretty good.”
