The Borderland Racing Association hosted its 2012 Awards Banquet at the Emo Legion on Oct. 20 with approximately 100 people in attendance.

The 2012 racing season saw several new Emo Speedway race feature winners, including Libby Wilson, Don Scholler and Kyle Godin.

In the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, Christopher Leek made it back-to-back track championships as he held off Cody Ossachuk and Chuck Lambert with three regular season wins. He finished as the runner up in seven feature races.

The Street Stocks then came up next to collect their awards for the top 10. Libby Wilson claimed the top title in 2012 with one win from herself and finishing in the well every week. With two wins, Chris Shine claimed the second spot and Richard Visser claimed third with a win himself.

In the WISSOTA Modifieds, Gavin Paull dominated the season once again with nine wins in thirteen shows, and rounded out the championship, his fourth all time. Paull held of Denny Trimble by only three points, while 2010 champion Glen Strachan finished third.

In the specialty awards, the Rookie of the Year in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds was Brody Strachan, while Steve Nordin took the honors in the WISSOTA Modifieds. Kyle Godin took the honors in the Street Stocks.

The Best Appearing Car award, voted by the fans, went to Libby Wilson in the Streets for the second year in a row, Chuck Lambert in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds for back to back, and in the WISSOTA Modifieds, it was Denny Trimble who held off Strachan for 2012.

The Keith McNally Memorial Award goes to the driver that works hard at racing, shows up as often as possible, but continues to finish towards the back. The award is about passion and dedication to the sport of racing. Wes Morriseau won it in 2012.

The Sportsmanship awards went to rookie Kyle Godin in the Street Stocks, Chuck Lambert in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds and Glen Strachan in the WISSOTA Modifieds once again.

For 2012, Romyn Pumping donated trophies to the drivers that were considered Most Improved. The award winners were Cody Ossachuk in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, Libby Wilson in the Street Stocks and Denny Trimble in the WISSOTA Modifieds.

There were two inductees into the Borderland Racing Association Hall of Fame. The first inductee was for the late Keith McNally who raced in the Thunder Stocks until a tragic accident in 1993. The clock, in honor of McNally, was accepted by his daughter, Tasha. The second was Dennis Pelepetz, who has been involved with many aspects of the Association since the 1960s. Rod Tompkins accepted the award on behalf of Pelepetz, who was unable to attend.
