As removal of the Falls High School swimming pool tiles began this week, an arrangement has been made for teams to use the diving pool for practice.
The Falls girls swimming and diving teams will begin practice at 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. Monday at the Falls High School diving pool, The Journal learned this week.
A previous arrangement in which the district was going to rent out a pool in Fort Frances will not be used, according to swimming coach Jill Herzig. The arrangement would have cost $5 per swimmer; a total of $1,200, she said.
The diving pool will be filled with water this week and will be available for use starting early next week, said Falls Superintendent Nordy Nelson.
“We were able to work that out and that’ll really be a benefit to us for practice times, transportation issues, and cost,” Nelson said.
He added that the diving pool will continue to be used at least for the initial few weeks of practice.
The lap pool initially closed earlier this year following the conclusion of the boys swimming and diving season to undergo a deepening project.
The pool reopened July 9, but then closed a few days later in response to a problem with the tiles coming off the bottom.
It has been drained and remains unavailable. The district submitted tile samples to a lab for investigation, and is awaiting the results.
