Falls’ Junior League baseball team opened the season last Thursday by splitting a doubleheader at Deer River.

The Falls lost the opening game, 9-5, in six innings.

Chase Bernard recorded the pitching loss for the Falls after working the first 4 1/3 innings. Walker Wegner threw the final two-thirds of an inning in relief.

Of Falls’ 9 hits, Bernard had three and Jordan Tilander added two.

I. Falls 19, Deer River 3

The Falls scored seven times in both the second and fourth innings on the way to winning big over Deer River in the second game, 19-3.

“We basically put the ball in play and they made mistakes,” said Falls Junior League head coach Mike Coffield.

Two Falls players — Brenden Williams and Tyler Coffield — each recorded 4 hits, while Tilander added two more.

Walker Ulrich scattered 4 hits pitching all five innings to record the victory.
