After 13 years as International Falls’ head baseball coach and previously being a long-time volunteer assistant, Vic Heinlen is retiring.

The Falls School Board on Monday accepted the resignation of Heinlen, who compiled an overall record of 127-132 since taking over as head coach in 2000.

The Broncos went 13-6 in Heinlen’s final season in 2012, which was the fifth consecutive year the team finished with a winning record.

Heinlen was the second non-faculty member and seventh coach overall in Falls baseball history named head coach.

He said he will be living in Arizona upon retiring from both coaching and his job at the Boise paper mill.

Heinlen said it has been a “tough decision” for him to leave the head coaching position, for which he will no longer be in the Falls area full time.

“It was a great time and a great experience,” he said.

Falls Athletic Director Don Rolando said the head baseball coaching vacancy will be posted and applications will be taken, prior to an interview process to fill the position.

Though no deadline has been set to hire the next head baseball coach, Rolando said he hopes the position can be filled as “quickly as possible.”

Littlefork-Big Falls is also looking for a new head baseball coach for the 2013 season. John Larson, who has been the head baseball coach the past two seasons, received approval from the L-BF School Board earlier this month to become the assistant baseball coach.

Larson has become the Vikings’ new head football coach for this season after being an assistant and is also the girls basketball head coach.
