The Falls High School swimming pool, which reopened July 9 following a deepening project and then closed a few days later with tiles coming off the concrete bottom, will remain closed for the time being, said Falls Community Education Director Rachel Amdahl.

She said the pool has been drained so that the tiles can be tested to see why they haven’t been holding on the bottom.

The pool was deepened to 5 feet on the end where the starting blocks are located to comply with a rule implemented by the National Federation of State High School Associations that calls for a minimum depth of 4 feet to be able to use starting blocks.

The entire FHS swimming pool was only 3 1/2 feet deep before the renovation work budgeted at $198,000 began earlier this year following the conclusion of the boys swimming and diving season.

Practice for the FHS girls swimming and diving team is set to begin Aug. 13 with the first home meet of 2012 scheduled for Sept. 4.
