Having the necessary funding and organizational status were among the topics discussed Wednesday night by the group looking into starting an athletic hall of fame at International Halls High School.

The group held its third meeting since first getting together earlier this month in an effort to make the hall of fame idea a reality.

Bronco sports booster and math teacher Timm Ringhofer suggested raising “seed money” to be able to cover the hall of fame’s start-up expenses, such as plaques for the inductees and providing two free meals per honoree when there would be an induction banquet.

In addition to banquet ticket sales, the group discussed the possibilities of having a silent auction at the banquet, raffles and obtaining sponsors to raise funds for the hall of fame.

Ringhofer said the proper organizational structure would need to be in place for that to be possible.

He brought up issues such as whether the hall of fame should establish its own checking account, by-laws and non-profit status, with the latter making it possible for a donor to designate a charitable contribution.

The group Wednesday also reviewed written material from a hall of fame in Proctor and agreed to contact that hall’s committee chair for information about how to get start-up money.

Based on anticipated costs, Ringhofer suggested having at least $1,000 in seed money.

He said he wouldn’t want to “rush in” and set up a hall of fame before all the details would be worked out.

Stuart Nordquist, who has decades of past coaching experience in the Falls district and has been attending the group’s meetings, agreed working out the details could take time.

“It might be a year before we can get this off the ground,” Nordquist said.

A written proposal the group reviewed earlier this month from athletic director Don Rolando calls for setting up a seven-member selection committee to review hall of fame nominations, which could be for a player, coach/director/advisor, at-large or team.

Under the proposal, a five-sevenths majority vote of the committee would be required to be inducted into the hall of fame.

The group set its next meeting for May 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the FHS library.
