The first annual Jim Marshall’s 5-on-5 Flag Football Tournament will be held in Two Harbors in October to raise funds for non-profit athletic programs.

The game is open to players ages 21 and over, and the event would raise funds benefiting Duluth Township Recreation Programs and Two Harbors Football Program — two youth sports organizations. The event will take place in Two Harbors.

“The importance of this is really huge,” said Kevin Pettis, recreation director for the Duluth Township program. “It will really benefit both youth programs in a positive way.”

Games are scheduled to take place Oct. 12, 13, and 14. Retired Vikings players will help host all games and will participate in a meet and greet. A dinner with the players will be held Oct. 12. The regular games will take place Oct. 13 and the championship games on Oct. 14. The game slots are 30 minutes long.

Each team’s registration allows for eight players, and the cost is $400 per team. Each additional player is $30 extra. The event is limited to 48 teams. Pettis said he hopes to see participation from International Falls area residents.

“We’re looking for an excellent turnout,” Pettis said. “We’d love to have players from International Falls.”

Prizes for the event include a traveling trophy, Vikings tickets for the winning team, and autographed Vikings memorabilia.

Pettis added he aims to continue the event annually with more retired Vikings players each year.

“It’s really going to be a fun atmosphere and a fun event,” Pettis said.

The event is organized by Viking Legends, a Two Harbors sports supper club and restaurant.
