Alex Henningsen, a three-time state qualifier in diving while part of the International Falls boys swimming and diving team, will have the opportunity to continue diving in college at the Division I level when he begins attending South Dakota State University this fall.
He said he made SDSU’s team as a walk-on after submitting a video of him in competition.
Though he won’t be receiving a scholarship to be on a Division I team, Henningsen said he will be receiving money for college through his enlistment in the National Guard, for which he will be training this summer before starting practice at SDSU in the fall.
Henningsen closed out his high school diving career last winter by placing seventh at the Class A state meet.
When asked about moving up to the Division I collegiate ranks, Henningsen said, “In my mind, I can be one of these top divers.”
Henningsen said he plans on pursuing studies at SDSU that will lead up to him being able to become chiropractor.
