International Falls defeated the city of Hibbing in the semifinals of the Capital of the State of Hockey promotion hosted by the Minnesota Wild.

Wild communications manager Aaron Sickman confirmed the news with The Journal on Wednesday afternoon.

The winner of the Capital of the State of Hockey contest, presented by TRIA Orthopaedic Center, will be announced April 10 when the Wild hosts the Dallas Stars. Fans can see the full bracket and vote by clicking on the State of Hockey link on the home page of www.wild.com.

Voting in the International Falls vs. Hibbing matchup ended at noon Wednesday. Voting for the other semifinal (Grand Rapids vs. Roseau) began at noon Wednesday and ends at noon Friday.

Championship voting begins at noon Friday and runs through midnight on April 8. A representative of the winning city will be invited to the game where he/she will be presented with a team autographed State of Hockey flag.
