Consensus among Kabetogama Lake residents is that the ice left the lake enough to allow a boat to travel unimpeded by ice to Kettle Falls in the P.M. hours of Sunday.

On Monday, Phil Hart of Gateway General Store reported that Tim Watson left the Kabetogama Visitor Center and fished down by Tar Point in Namakan, “no ice, no problem, later yesterday a.m., Rick Oveson went to KFH (Kettle Falls Hotel), he met up with ice at Sexton Island area, there was ice hit and miss, about 3 inches of ice, he traveled through it fine, and was clear travel the rest the way to the hotel. On Rick’s return trip mid-afternoon, he had no ice travel problems at all, it had broken up and basically melted away.”

Voyageurs National Park pilots were expected to fly over Rainy Lake Tuesday to check ice conditions there.
