Jake Casareto, a junior from International Falls and this season’s starting shortstop on the St. Scholastica baseball team, is one of eight Saints named to the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference’s first team.

After being named an honorable mention All-UMAC choice a year ago, Casareto was named to the first team in 2012.

Casareto finished third on the team with 50 hits and 31 RBIs. He was second on the squad with five triples and tied for the team lead with three home runs.

On defense, Casareto was part of 33 double plays from his shortstop position and recorded 60 assists in league games.

St. Scholastica went 35-11 in 2012 and won the UMAC Tournament to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament, where the Saints were eliminated in the Regional last week following a loss to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
