After having lost only one player from last season to graduation, Littlefork-Big Falls is seeking to build upon having gone 21-6 overall in 2011 and being both the Arrowhead and Northern Lakes Conference champions.
While an all-conference setter, Paige DeLack, who is now playing volleyball at Itasca Community College, is gone from last year’s team, four all-conference hitters return — senior Chelsey Ziemba and juniors Brooke Millerbernd, Abby Thompson and DyAna Imhof.
Another top returning player is senior hitter Courtney Pfeifer, who will be a captain this season along with Ziemba and Millerbernd.
Head coach Sarah Bradley, who enters her second season leading the Vikings, lists the team’s strengths as the players having been playing together for a long time, along with having a tall team with the players’ height and every girl having some varsity experience.
Bradley said the team goals this season include making it to the Class A state tournament, finishing the season with 20 or more wins and winning the Bigfork tournament.
She said she is looking forward this season to “watching the girls continue to improve and build on what they learned last year.”
L-BF begins the season Thursday with a road match against Mesabi East. Bradley said the teams to watch out for this season include International Falls, which hosts the Vikings on Aug. 30, and North Woods, which knocked L-BF out of the playoffs last year.
