Stock car racing returned to the Emo Speedway last Saturday with great weather all around for Amsoil Dirt Track Racing Series action. A great crowd was on hand as the three classes of WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, WISSOTA Modifieds and Street Stocks took to the track for the heat races.
First out were the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds with Christopher Leek and Chuck Lambert on the front row. As the green flag waved, Leek never looked back while some rustling took place in the field that caused some damage to a few cars. Some mechanical problems seemed to be apparent with Bill Reimer and Chuck Lambert as they both bowed out early. Leek claimed his second heat win of the year. In the Street Stocks, it was side by side action the whole way as Richard Visser and sub driver Tylar Wilson battled it out for the win. Visser moved up the track a bit more and started to get a bit of an edge allowing him the victory for the heat. In the WISSOTA Modifieds, Glen Strachan in his new car pulled out front and didn’t have any challengers after the second lap as it looked as though the car was hooking up well. Gavin Paull moved into second as the race finished up.
The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds looked a bit smaller for a field for the feature due to the issues of other cars, but it was Leek again who pulled out in front. Meanwhile, Lambert who had to start behind everyone, struggled to get around Cody Ossachuk, Mike Wilson, and Anthony Visser but as the laps turned, Lambert was able to move up to second spot. It seemed as though he was gaining on the leader but as the white flag waved, Leek was too far ahead. Leek claimed his first victory of the season and moves first in the point standings.
In the Street Stocks, it was a complete Wilson show as he pulled away early on taking the feature win. The rest of the field had their share of problems as Carlee Bosma and Chris Shine both suffered from flat tires through the feature. Wilson took his second feature win of the year and is now first in the points standings after falling back last weekend.
In the WISSOTA Modifieds, Gary Wilson and Steve Nordin started on the front row. Wilson pulled out in front at the beginning but it seemed the changes that Paull made between the heat and the feature were working as he hooked up from the fourth position to the lead. It was all Paull the rest of the way as he claimed his third feature win of the year. Meanwhile, Strachan moved from fifth spot and claimed second before the race ended.
Tonight, stock car racing returns to the Emo Speedway with Hot Laps at 7 p.m. and racing at 7:30 p.m. During intermission will be the bicycle races for ages 12 and under.
