Racing resumed at the Emo Speedway this past weekend with another forecast that didn’t look much better than last Saturday’s. But by the afternoon, the forecast of rain moved to midnight, allowing the races to go forward. First off was the driver introductions that allowed the drivers to thank those that are helping them to race this year and to tell the fans what they look forward to the most this season.

After the introductions, the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds headed out onto the track for their heat race. On the front row were Ken Perry and Cody Ossachuk. Off to a quick start, Ossachuk took the lead. Perry hung into second spot as Christopher Leek, Matt DePiero and Brady Caul went up to three wide. On the next lap Caul and Chuck Lambert tangled a bit leaving Lambert nowhere to go but over the top. On the restart, Leek took up second with Perry on the inside. It looked as though this was how it would finish, but Lambert after a three wide battle with Perry and DePiero started to move up to second by passing Leek on the back stretch. Caul moved up to third several laps later as Ossachuk claimed the win.

In the Street Stocks, there was some close battling, but it was Carlee Bosma from third position to win her second heat race of the year. In second spot was Chris Shine and Wes Morriseau rounded out the top three. In the WISSOTA Modifieds, Dustin Wahl of Greenbush, Minnesota took the lead and never looked back while Denny Trimble and Gavin Paull rounded out the top three.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds started with Anthony Visser and Caul on the front row. With the onset of the green flag, one car moved ahead and the other fell behind with Caul taking the lead. The race pretty much went green to checkered with Leek moving up to second but being unable to grasp any gain on the leader. Meanwhile, Lambert moved from fifth to third but was unable to catch up to second and first. The heat winner, Ossachuk took fourth and DePiero finished fifth.

The Street Stocks came out next with Morriseau and Libby Wilson on the front pole. The early lead was for Wilson but the other four were very near trying to gain some sort of position. At first, it seemed as though R. Visser would get to the front but it was Bosma from fourth that was to become the front person. Visser and Wilson fought it out for second but Bosma was never left out of anyone’s sights. It was a good race as the five stuck close together. With a couple laps to go, Wilson was starting to push the car a little harder getting her past Visser for second on the last lap. But it was Bosma who would take the win and get her second feature win of her career and her third overall win of the season.

In the WISSOTA Modifieds, Ron Korpi and Steve Nordin started on the front row. After a short rain delay, Paull took the lead with the rest starting to sort out as the laps started to count down. Eight laps in, Wahl had moved into second and Trimble was starting to move in third. The caution came out for rookie Lindsay Bourre which started to set the stage for a duel between Paull and Wahl. But it was Paull that continued to pull ahead although Wahl was able to maintain pace. The caution came out once again for Bourre forcing her to exit early, but Paull continued to pull ahead of Wahl until the checkered flag. Paull claimed his second win of the year.

Races return to the Emo Speedway this Saturday night with the Candyman at intermission. Hot laps start at 7 p.m. with racing at 7:30 p.m. Grandstand gates open at 6 p.m., pits at 5 p.m.  Draw cutoff is at 6:45 p.m.
